Tembleques
"Tembleques" which are mainly combs and pins made of pearl like beads that are shaped into flowers or butterflies.  Panamanians use these combs with the national  dress the "Pollera".

Tembleques from Panama

As far as I can remember the tembleques have always been white, with beads of a pearl like color but recently I have seen new tembleques in color.   My mother used to make them when I was little, but I don't remember if they were for my use or for someone else (I vaguely remember wearing a pollera once or twice, but not the fancy ones, the "montuno" which is a more peasant like dress). You not only use pearl like beads but also a a very thin wire that is coiled  (like a slinky toy) called gusanillo.  The gusanillo is sold in a circular coil and a more zig zag like coil.  I will try to get a picture soon, I have seen some of them in the Crafts store (Here in Panama, known as Sederia).

My dear friend and colleague, Alexis Rodriguez, has let me take pictures from his latest tembleques, which he and his wife Maribel made for the Flower Fair (Feria de las Flores) in Chiriqui, Republic of Panama.  I was amazed to find out that many of the artisans were in fact not Panamanian but from other latin american countries.
